the village of "La Comté"

This village is located in the far west of the former county. This location undoubtedly explains its name, because it was here that people entered or left the county (at that time 14th or 15th century). The village of La Comté has managed to preserve its typical old features. The house n°9 mentions the year 1788 on the doorframe and still shows the four traditional and essential elements of an old Ardennes farm.
Also note the houses n°8 and 10, these date from 1800 and 1803. The road descending towards the main track, runs through meadows, delimited by hedges, formed by hazel, hawthorn, and blackthorn bushes thus forming a rich ecosystem ; which should be preserved in any case.
On the left in the depths you will see the Méanders of the « Golnay », a very winding river that rises in « Sart » and plunges into the « Glain » in Salmchateau. Black alder and white willow along the banks, form a typical marsh vegetation, which can be admired by crossing the Golnay, over the « Pont des Brebis », originally built in 1863.  InfoSalm : +32-80/21.50.52. - www.vielsalm-gouvy.be
