According to the archives, there were slate extractions from the 1500s, but with less significant yields. The beginning of the 16th century brought a revival of this industrial sector. Slates were already used as roofing for important buildings. This thriving industry at the beginning of the 20th century then fell into decline. In the slate quarries of Cahay, at that time, between 150 and 280 people were at work. In 1957, there were still two extractions, but unfortunately, they have since ceased all activities. Very recently, the "Thier des Carrières" was tackled with bulldozers, which removed the waste from the quarries to harden forest roads. InfoSalm: +32-80/21.50.52. - www.vielsalm-gouvy.be
