Assenede is known as a mussel village - in the center there are some appreciated mussel restaurants. The quality mark of the municipality, but visible on fewer and fewer roads, is the cobblestone. The cobblestone also gives the villagers their nickname "cobblestone biters".
On the territory of Assenede are some creeks of the Meetjesland creek area, including the Rode Geul and the Grote Geul. On the market square there are some authentic houses.
