The detached bourgeois house in neoclassical style, on the right, was built around 1878 by Celestin Vander Schueren, oil manufacturer and mayor of Schelderode for 32 years. Later Odilon Daem, teacher and sexton-organist in Schelderode, bought it. Next to the house an outbuilding was provided with stables and a baking oven and a conservatory was built. The house was renovated around 1988.
On February 10, 2000, the whole – including the front garden fence with fencing – was protected as a monument.
A little further on the left, in the Molenstraat, is the Smessewegel. The name refers to the forge with accompanying café "De Smesse" which was located for a long time on the corner of Molenstraat and Smessewegel. At the end of this wegel begins the Ronkaardwegel, after the may beetles or "ronkaards" that the children once caught in the hedge that is located here. A side road of this road is the "Martinusgang", also a slow road that used to be called "'t gangske" or "'t ketske". The name refers to the St. Martin's Church, to which this road leads.
