Melkwezer is a part of the municipality of Linter. Melkwezer was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1971.Weser, now Melkwezer, is a prehistoric water name. The oldest forms are Wiser and apud Wesere . Archivists sometimes confuse documents about Wezeren, part of Landen, with those about Melkweser. In 1645 Melkwezer was also called Wezeren Brabant opposite Walswezeren Luyxs.
