Assent is a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant and a sub-municipality of the municipality of Bekkevoort. It was an independent municipality from 1922, when it was split off from the municipality of Kaggevinne-Assent, until it was incorporated into the municipality of Bekkevoort during the merger in 1977. The origin of the name Assent is not well known. Carnoy explains the name as: harvest land. Lindemans sees the form Asnôth as synonymous with bath: bath. The name Hasnoch was mentioned in a deed from 838. A nobleman named Hotbert donated his possessions to the abbey of Saint-Truiden at "Hasnoch super fluvio MERBATO in pago Hasbaniensi sive Diostiensi". The river or stream Merbato most likely refers to Meerbeek.
