Munte is a village in the Belgian province of East Flanders and a part of the municipality of Merelbeke. The name of the village, first mentioned in 990, is a corrupted form of the Romance word Montem and refers to the ridge on which the village is situated. The lords of Munte were an influential family and have been mentioned in sources since the beginning of the 11th century.
