On the first weekend of May, Munte is populated by giants! In the lead Uncle Miele, Tante Nitte and their offspring, spun from the plays of Henri Van Daele and Romain De Coninck. And also 'de Muntenaar', the enlargement of the statue in the Torrekensstraat
(made in 1977), is there. The number of giants grew dramatically. In 1955 Uncle Miele started alone, now it is a thriving family, especially thanks to the grand celebration of 1000 years of Munte in 1990. Many municipalities in the region also send their giants to Munte on that day!
