Wannegem is a village in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Together with Lede it forms Wannegem-Lede, a borough of Kruisem. Wannegem was an independent municipality at the beginning of the 19th century and forms the western part of the borough. The place was already mentioned in the 12th and 13th centuries. The old name has the suffixes -inga and -heem, and literally means residence of the people of Wanhand. The place depended administratively on the kasselrij Oudenaarde. In ecclesiastical matters, Wannegem belonged to the diocese of Tournai and since 1559 to the established diocese of Ghent.
