In Wulpen, an inscription recalls the farm Alaertshuizen, which indicates that these lands were reclaimed by religious figures from the Abbey of Our Lady of the Dunes in 1128.
Wulpen is located right along the old railway embankment Nieuwpoort-Diksmuide, which played a key role during World War I at the Battle of the Yser.
One of the most well-known residents is the sculptor Paul Baeteman.
