Zoerle-Parwijs is a village in the Belgian province of Antwerp and a part of the municipality of Westerlo. Zoerle-Parwijs was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1971. Already on the "Tiendkaart van Hulshout", Zoerle-Parwijs is mentioned as "Soerle". The addition Parwijs refers to the lord of Parwijs. This is associated with Perwez, a municipality in Walloon Brabant, close to Gembloux. Presumably, Soerle came under the authority of the lord of Perwez through a form of feudal leasing, hence the addition of Perwez or Parwijs to the name Soerle.
