Bogaarden and the landscape in its vicinity have remained virtually unchanged for two centuries. The distribution of housing, road infrastructure and land use remained unchanged, with the exception of part of the hay meadows where Canada poplars were planted. The farms from which the area was exploited in the 18th century still exist and are still in operation. The Ter Kammen farm, with its imposing rococo house, used to be a brewery of Cantimpré Abbey. It is an enclosed farmhouse with whitewashed brick buildings surrounding a cobbled courtyard. Also in the vicinity we mention the Hof te Plutsingen, the Hof van Sergeantens, the Hof Tasseneirs and the Kamsmolen near Heikruis. The surroundings of St. Theodardus' Church have an attractive decoration including a number of beautiful neoclassical facades from the 19th century. The Romanesque church tower probably dates from the 11th century and was built of greenish rubble stone, quarried in the area. It is recognizable in all directions as a beacon in the landscape.
