Lamorteau is a village in the Belgian province of Luxembourg and a part of the municipality of Rouvroy in the arrondissement of Virton.
At the end of the Ancien Régime, the communes were created and Lamorteau was incorporated into the commune of Harnoncourt, whose village centre is located one and a half kilometres northeast of Lamorteau. In 1823, major municipal reorganizations were carried out in Luxembourg and the neighboring municipality of Torgny was dissolved and merged into Harnoncourt. The new commune was renamed Lamorteau, after the village that lay between the other towns of Harnoncourt and Torgny. In 1853, however, Torgny was split off from Lamorteau and in 1906 Harnoncourt was also split off as an independent municipality.
