Dikkebus is a village in the Belgian province of West Flanders and a part of the municipality of Ypres since the municipal mergers of 1977. The village has approximately 1500 inhabitants. The hamlet of Krommenelst is located within the territory of Vlamertinge but is also part of the parish of Dikkebus.
The name means 'dense thicket', and the first settlement in Dikkebus is believed to have been a hunter's lodge in the middle of the forests. Almost none of the forests of old remain today, especially during WWI much wood was cut down. The name Dikkebus first appears in 1072 when a knight named Fulpold and his wife Ramburga founded monastic residences at a place called Thiggebusch. In Arras, there is a charter dated October 13, 1093, in which the name Thicebus appears. The name also comes up several times in the writings of the Abbey of Voormezele.
