Bettenhoven (or Bettincourt) is linked to the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven. The village of Bettenhoven (Bettincourt) is located in Hesbaye, now part of Waremme in the province of Liège, in which case the etymology would refer to the farm of Bettingen (Betto family). To be on the safe side, you can also celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven here.
The name Beethoven is also linked to the meaning "original origin of a beet farm" (according to B. Cooper). But that's not true. The name Beethoven or Bettehoven has been around since the early Middle Ages, but beet farms have only existed -not only there- since the 19th century, after the composer's birth. So Cooper's hypothesis has had its day for some time. Even in the 14th century we find a couple 'van Roost - van Beethoven' (two neighbouring villages) in the southern county of Loon.
