Ayeneux was a lordship located in the guardianship of Fléron. Emperor Otto II had granted this area in 982 to the Chapter of Our Lady in Aachen. The guardian, Mr. De LaRochette, caused such trouble in 1618 that the chapter decided to rid itself of this guardianship, and in 1626 it was purchased by the Prince-Bishop of Liège. The lord of Ayeneux resided in the Castle of Wégimont.
