Heurne is a village in the municipality of Oudenaarde, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The village is located along the Scheldt in the Flemish Ardennes. The village has about 850 inhabitants. It is located in the north of Oudenaarde, in the direction of Zingem.
The earliest mention of Heurne is from 989, as Hornjou, hill. The village is actually located on a hill on the left bank of the Scheldt and was historically connected to Eine, nowadays also part of Oudenaarde. In all likelihood, settlements were already located here in Carolingian times. Heurne, presumably intended as a fortress against the Vikings, grew into a seigneury together with Eine and also housed the separate seigneury of Axelwalle, which had ties with Heestert in Zwevegem. Today, a street name still reminds us of this seigneury; the 15th-century original Axelwalle Castle was reconstructed in 1978.
