* Seawall No. 59. Former hotel so-called "CONTINENTAL". Protected as a monument by M.B. of 15.05.2001. Naming cf. inscription by means of concrete, white painted block letters above the cornice; Now 'Messi der Officieren' (14th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment). Imposing eclectic building from the 1920s - with extension from 1937 to a design by architect A. Vereecke (Middelkerke) - as a late example of a seawall hotel. Building of three bays + two additional right bays of 1937; raised ground floor and five storeys under flat roof. Bluestone plinth with rectangular cellar windows. Red brick construction; cantilevered upper floor typified by a strongly lined, white-painted façade finish cf. the delineating and continuous window frames of the three-lights, the cordon-forming bands, the cornice on bobbins, the continuous curved bay window topped with elaborate pediment. Strong detailing in the cornice, the consoles, the keystones, the volute decoration and the spherical crown. White painted ground floor with wide basket arch window under drip molding supported on two pilasters, resp. left and right flanked by rectangular windows and door. Renewed woodwork. Similar eclectic rear façade on the J. Casselaan (no. 3), of three bays and six storeys on slightly elevated ground floor. Central bay as rectangular bay window ascending in bell gable with pediment crowning, flanked by three-sided bay windows.
