The Leopoldlaan was for a long time the main traffic artery of Middelkerke. A better location could hardly have been chosen for this pumping station and garage company.
On the ground floor was the workshop, and above it was the residence of the operator.
The complex was designed in 1924 by architect Deleye. Despite the fact that it is quite functional architecture, attention has been paid to form, color, and rhythm. Various elements refer to the Art Deco style. For example, the front facade is completely covered with yellow faience tiles, with brown tiles providing the rhythm.
The building was thus both a workshop and a signpost for the company, a phenomenon that we also encounter in the well-known Citroën garage in Brussels.
During the interwar period, several gas pumps and fuel tanks were added, indicating the success of car use and the coastal city in general.
Additionally, in 1928, a volume was built, providing parking spaces for car owners who wanted to park their vehicles safely somewhere.
