Villa The Zephyrs

This villa was purchased in 1972 by the municipality of Middelkerke, which has since restored and reorganized it to evoke the situation of the 1930s as much as possible.
Architect Oscar Van de Voorde designed the building in 1910 for the world exhibition in Brussels, and in 1922, construction began on behalf of the Ghent doctor Henri Muyshondt, who turned it into his holiday home.
The paneling and mantelpiece of the villa are the work of Henry van de Velde, who is known for his design of the so-called Book Tower in Ghent, among other things. Despite the fact that the paneling appears in Van de Velde's company catalog, only one example has been found to date. This means that Westende hosts a unique example of Art Nouveau interior.
Villa 'Les Zéphyrs' is open to visitors, where you can see how wealthier tourists from the early twentieth century spent their holidays by the sea.
