The Fondry des Chiens is a doline, a karst phenomenon. The Fondry is located in the Fagne-Famenne region, known for its limestone layers. Around the doline is a large calcareous grassland. Calcareous grasslands are one of the few places where wild orchids grow in Belgium. Among other things, the male orchid can be found here. In the past, iron ore was also mined here, which can be seen in the red color of the rock present in the Fondry.
