One of the inhabitants of Wemmel is the top doctor Bert Bravenboer. In DeKetting van de Randkrant he tells the following about his hometown: "In Wemmel I am struck by the gentility, such as the neat gardens in front of the houses. And actually also the considerable percentage of French speakers who live there. But Belgians are blessed with their multilingual knowledge: Dutch, French and often a fair bit of English. Cherish it, and stay away from the language battle: that's a message I want to pass on. The excellent school system and location, in the heart of Europe, make Belgians the ideal citizens of Europe."
