Description

Alfred Nelen was the founder of tourism at Donkmeer. Donkmeer is located in an old meander of the Scheldt River. Gradually, it became overgrown, and a thick layer of peat piled up. This was excavated in the 17th and 18th centuries, resulting in the creation of water pools. Especially after World War II, water recreation grew at the large 86-hectare lake.
