The Lokeren City Museum tells the history of the city through objects, film and photographs, and stories. The focus is on work and leisure life in the 19th and 20th centuries. A lot of attention is given to the fur cutting industry, a preparatory industry where rabbit and hare skins are processed into felt hair for hat manufacturing around the world. Lokeren was the global center for this dirty and polluting industry in the 20th century. In addition, the Lokeren City Museum also houses the National Butchers' Museum, an old bakery, and a treasure chamber.
