The Torenhof, now a hotel, is the former residence of the Flemish expressionist Albert Servaes, who was active in Sint-Martens-Latem. The tower offered the painter a beautiful view over the nearby meadows and the kouter of Baarle, across the Leie. He constructed the building himself between 1915 and 1917. Notably, it has a Romanesque character that evokes the religious or mystical influences in Servaes' works.
