The Aalst districts of Baardegem, Meldert, Moorsel, and Herdersem together form the so-called Faluintjes region. The name is derived from the nature reserve of the same name, which stretches between the Affligem Abbey and Moorsel. Alternately, every last full weekend of July, the Faluintjes municipalities organize the renowned harvest festival De Pikkeling. This folk festival attracts thousands of visitors each year and offers folklore from home and abroad, demonstrations of harvest machinery and ancient harvesting rituals, traditional music, and regional gastronomy.
