The current mill had a predecessor that already existed in 1218. aren't I of Gavere-Schorisse occupied 10 shillings on his windmill at his villa in Mater for his father's birthday.
This is a precursor of the still existing Oude Molen or Tissenhovemolen in Mater, which thus has the oldest history of all surviving Flemish windmills. However, the mill was rebuilt a number of times (including in 1768) and in 1787 it was moved a few hundred meters to its current location. Until the end of the Ancien Régime, the mill remained in the possession of the lords of Schorisse.
The current post mill dates from 1768. It was probably brought here from a lower coulter in the northeast, about 350 meters from the current one. This mill is located at 105 meters above sea level. When he moved, it was turned into a three-attic. The mill was mentioned in the medal register of 1571 as the property of the baron of Schorisse.
Because of its exceptional location and panorama, the towers of Ghent and Deinze are visible to the naked eye, the Germans used it as a lookout post during the Second World War. On March 28, 1956, the mill was protected as a monument. On 30 April 2004, the cobblestone road De Jagerij was protected as a monument. In 1975-1976 the mill underwent a radical and grinding restoration. The riveted rods were then replaced by pestle rods. The belly on the windweigh (added around 1928 for a third stone couple) and the galley on the catch side (for the hexagonal bolt) were "restored" in 1976. At the beginning of 2006 the rods were replaced by new oak pestel rods. The mill builders Wieme from Machelen (Zulte) also put new oak shales on the roof and the wind. The designer was Sabine Okkerse from Horebeke. On August 12, 2006, the restored mill was festively inaugurated.
