This beautiful gate stands between two columns at the main entrance of the municipal park, on Duinenweg. The columns flanked the access road to the children's hospital Roger de Grimberghe (1884 – 1914) before World War I, a Brussels institution for less fortunate children from the capital. Doctor Pieter Joseph Casse, who later became the mayor of Middelkerke, was the director of that hospital for a long time. After World War I, they were placed along the avenue leading to the municipal cemetery.
