The brasserie "De Rotonde"

The brasserie “De Rotonde” is part of the Grand Hotel Bellevue, built in 1911. Architect Octave Van Rysselberghe designed a hotel with 225 rooms in a groundbreaking pre-modernist structure for its time. Even today, one can still sense the atmosphere of the past here. The Belle Époque style in the brasserie, with a panoramic view of the sea, and the cozy, comfortable hotel rooms are unique to our coast. The location, halfway between Middelkerke and Westende, offers exceptional advantages. Even during the summer, there is an oasis of calm in and around the building. There is ample parking in the immediate vicinity. A stop for the coastal tram is just 50 meters away!

The interior received new colors and was outfitted with contemporary furniture. The aim was to create a stylish, harmonious whole that radiates peace and warmth.

The opening took place in June 1911. Two hundred and twenty-five rooms, two elevators, and sixteen baths with warm seawater were available for guests. Hydrotherapy ‘avant la lettre’ for a wealthy clientele, so to speak. During World War I, Westende was largely destroyed. The Bellevue survived, albeit heavily damaged by the ravages of war. The reconstruction did not entirely follow the original state. The fact that the hotel could be rebuilt was due to the strong concrete structure that had mostly held the complex upright. In 1922, “Westendaise S.A. Forcière et Industrielle,” which also owned the Westend Hotel, took over the Bellevue, thereby acquiring the only two large hotels in Westende.
