Description

During World War II, German troops occupied the castle and used it as an ammunition depot. In September 1944, when the German soldiers withdrew from Grimbergen, they set fire to the castle to prevent the advancing Allies from getting their hands on the ammunition. Heavy fires and devastating explosions were the result. Nevertheless, the old keep, a round corner tower and some walls still remained.
