Saint Alena Chapel

According to legend, Saint Alena's Chapel stands on the spot where Saint Alena died. So here her arm would have been torn out and she would have fallen dead. Saint Alena is said to have lived in the 7th century and was the daughter of the pagan lord of Dilbeek. Against her father's wishes, Alena converted to the Christian faith and secretly traveled through the woods to Forest every evening to attend worship. During one of those trips, she was caught by one of her father's soldiers. Alena defended herself and clung to a tree. The soldiers pulled with all their strength so that Alena's arm was torn out and she fell dead. An angel brought the severed arm to the altar in Forest. Her body was also buried there and soon miracles happened at her grave. At the end of the 12th century, she was canonized and since then Saint Alena has been venerated as the patroness against eye and tooth ailments, among other things. This saint is invoked here against eye diseases. The brick chapel dates from 1872. Water was drawn from a well at the rear.
