The young trees you see here were planted at the end of 2012 - beginning of 2013. This 8-hectare scientific site, called the FORBIO site, is part of an international experiment on trees and biodiversity. Five tree species were mixed here in different ways. By monitoring these different combinations in a scientific way, the importance of varied forests is investigated.
This Bosland project is part of the largest ecosystem experiment in the world. In addition to this site, similar sites have recently been constructed in Zedelgem and Gedinne. These three sites form the Belgian part of a worldwide network of tree species experiments that is currently being set up with research sites in Germany, France, Finland, Borneo, Panama and China.
