Plagging is the removal of the top nutrient-rich layer of the soil. This gives plants that prefer to grow in a nutrient-poor environment a chance. Plagging is actually a drastic form of mowing and removal. Plagging is commonly done in heath and dune areas.
Here, it was plowed in 2006. At that time, it was completely grassy with tufted hairgrass. Bell heather, cross-leaved heath, creeping broom, prickly broom, and small warkruid have now taken over the area again.
