In the 18th, the valley of the Gerhagenloop was still plenty of heathland. Now it is in agricultural use. The forests, the wooded edges, grasslands, the plantations and heathland around farms are the habitat of the collared redstart. This beautifully colored bird eats insects and lives in burrows. The collared redstart was adopted by the municipality of Tessenderlo. The municipality has installed nesting boxes to increase the population. Farmers are encouraged to make the yard planting and the farm suitable for this bird, but also for the barn swallow.
Follow the street in the direction of Jagersweg. Via the Sablon road you will return to the forest museum.
