On the right side, we pass the Galooie motte. This is an important landscape landmark with significant historical value. https://inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/dibe/relict/201012
The origin and settlement history of the Galooie motte is likely connected to the Béthune family, which came into possession of the lordship of Loker around 1200. The lords of Loker presumably built a motte fortification on the eastern slope of the valley of the Galooiebeek in the 13th century, with a wooden tower on it. Still during the 13th century, a tower made of yellow brick was likely constructed. At the beginning of the 15th century, this lordship came into the hands of the Hornes family. During the same period, the materials from the old tower were recovered to build a new structure. Some limited excavations were conducted by J. Claerhout around 1900 on the Galooie motte. The National Service for Excavations carried out an extensive excavation campaign in 1976-1977, during which a grave of burnt remains was discovered. The motte is located 700 m from the Lokerhof (Dranouterstraat), the actual center of the medieval lordship. A dried-up moat surrounds the motte, which has a diameter of about 40 m and a height of 4.5 m.
Along the way, we pass the vineyard "Klein Rijselhoek" with grape varieties such as Regent and early Cabernet.
