The Abbey of Ter Doest was founded in 1106 by the French Benedictines of Saint-Riquers in Pothieu. Some 70 years later, the Cistercians took over the abbey and built a refectory, a chapter house, several dormitories, a scriptorim, a library and a church. Today, the imposing abbey barn, built in 1275, can still be admired. The adjoining abbey farm from the 17th century is home to the restaurant Hof Ter Doest. You can eat well but also stay and enjoy a rural wellness.
