In sparse sunny spots you can find the hazel worm. This animal, despite its name, is not a worm and despite its appearance, it is not a snake. It is a legless lizard that grows to an average length of 30 cm. Unlike most reptiles, the hazel worm is viviparous. The eggs develop in the body and the young are born in a membrane. The hazel worm is also popularly known as 'the forest eel'.
