In the past, the Poaching Forest was a patchwork of valuable alder forests, heathland and heischral grasslands, now quite rare nature in Europe. Over the years, plantations with coniferous wood, fields and monotonous grasslands appeared in the Poaching Forest that displaced these valuable biotopes. A falling groundwater level made it very difficult for the alder forests. The nature development and LIFE project restored the original landscape. In the period 2001 – 2010 the forest received a remarkable facelift. Now you can once again enjoy beautiful nature in a landscape of yesteryear.
