Description

Castle with medieval keep, 16th-century extension and 17th-century and 19th-century adaptations, closely linked to the history of the municipality and located on the northern bank of the Grote Nete. Moated castle originated and grew around a "delightful" fortification with keep or residential tower, located on the edge of a wooded park (approximately 60 hectares) with ponds, lawns, lanes, walking paths, a symmetrical French garden and a less formal English park separated by the Grote Nete. The location of the castle dates back to a strategic site, namely a sandy appearance in the marshes north of the Grote Nete; archaeological evidence for a Gallo-Roman or Frankish settlement is not present.
