Description

The neo-Gothic town hall was built in 1882-1883 to a design by architect E. de Perre-Montigny. The building has been protected as a monument since 1995 and it was restored in 2000. In the restoration assignment, the façade work was the most important part. On the inside, the council chamber was restored.
In the stairwell, the painting by Stekenaar Baerwaldt (1893) is immediately noticeable, depicting the intervention of Amelberga Truyman with General Osten. Thanks to her plea, Stekene was protected from the destruction of the French troops in 1798 as a result of the Boer War. In front of the town hall is the monument 'Den Engel'. The monument was erected in memory of the victims during the world wars.
