The Cistercians of the Sint-Bernardus Abbey in Hemiksem laid the foundation for the current Malle and its surroundings with the reclamation of the wild lands. The Trappist abbey, founded in 1794 and built by exiled French monks, treasures a valuable library, ancient manuscripts, and paintings. The abbey church in neo-Romanesque style dates from 1886. The monks pray, study, and work there in brotherly community and quiet solitude. Therefore, you cannot visit the abbey and the brewery.
