Tournay-Solvay Park

Leaving the forest, let’s find out more about an illustrious Belgian family at the Tournay-Solvay Park. The Solvay family, industrial tycoons at the turn of the 20th century, erected numerous buildings throughout the region, such as Hotel Solvay on avenue Louise, which has been classified as a world heritage site. This way, they showcased their success in the construction sector. Here, in the shadow of the stark home in Flemish Neorenaissance style dating back to 1878, commissioned by Alfred Solvay, lies a rather unknown and idyllic park, clearly designed by the famous landscape architect Jules Buyssens, who came up with the lay-out in 1911. The Tournay-Solvay Park was opened to the public in 1980 and in 1984, a fire destroyed the castle, which is currently being restored.
