Anyone who enters Daknam is immediately charmed by the village square and the old church! The church was already there in the 12th century and was expanded in the 15th century with a southern part and a larger choir. A fire in the 17th century unfortunately destroyed part of the old church.
Be sure to take a look inside the church and admire the exceptionally preserved wooden barrel vault. At the entrance to the cemetery there is a small square space. This was the call-off tower where the 'spoken newspaper' was given after the mass celebrations.
Daknam is also known for its annual Trappist and crafts market (3) held on Whit Monday. During the party, different virtues are combined: art, crafts and a tasty Westmalle. In the meantime, they have completed their 41st edition! More info at the Reynaertkring Daknam.

Trappist Beer (3)
A Trappist is a beer brewed by the Trappists or monks of the order of Cistercians. The name is derived from 'La Trappe', one of the first Cistercian abbeys. Worldwide there are only 8 real Trappist breweries, 6 of which are in Belgium. There are a lot of conditions to get the label 'Trappist'. For example, the beer still has to be brewed by the monks themselves or at least under their supervision.
