Kruiskerk located north of the Market Square. Zottegem was previously dependent on Strijpen for operation; in the 14th century, independent parish with Gothic cross church; in 1564 and 1645, ravaged by fire and destruction; Only the choir and the nave were preserved. An engraving by Sanderus (1644) shows us a single-aisled cruciform church (the aisles not yet built) with crossing tower and choir with one or two straight bays and three-sided choir closure. Circa 1740, probably extension of the choir with two bays (hypothesis of H. Vandenbossche, derived from the data of the Potter F. and Broeckaert J., and the image of the church on a pilgrimage vane of Our Lady of Deinsbeke, from the middle of the 18th century). The church then had a Baroque bell gable under triangular pediment; segmental arched wall openings. In 1750 construction of west tower and aisles; sealing the choir windows for the erection of a new high altar. In 1855, construction of two side choirs and north and south sacristy. In 1864, renovation of the tower; in 1870 the choir windows were reopened; in 1886 demolition and rebuilding of the west façade; in 1965 work on the tower.
