Roadside chapel in a hedged park, enclosed by an iron gate, including pruned hedge planting in the shape of the letters Saint Rita. The chapel was built in 1946 at the instigation of Pol De Colage as an expression of gratitude and to further protect the district from flooding.
The architect Leon Van Hove from Hamme designed the plan and Gustaaf Van Haute from Moerzeke carried out the works. Work began on 15 May 1946 and the chapel was consecrated on 23 June 1946.
Rectangular brick chapel with narrower and lower rectangular chancel, under gable roofs (slates). To the left of the roof is a tall square brick bell tower with a wrought iron cross on the tent roof. White-painted chapel on grey-painted plinth, also grey-painted sloping corner buttresses; The rear façade is clad with whitewashed artificial slates. Gabled façade crowned with bluestone cross and equipped with a round-arched door in a brick frame with a bluestone keystone, dated 1946. In the stained glass window of the skylight is the inscription "H. Rita B.V.O". Two round-arched windows in both side walls, one in the rear façade.
The interior of the chapel is plastered and painted and is covered with a barrel vault. Brown panelling with floral motifs. At the top of the walls painted frieze with zigzag motifs. The four coloured stained-glass windows in the side walls depict Saint Rita, Saint Martin on horseback, Saint Mary and Child (dated 1950), and Saint Joseph. Above the entrance door hangs a crucifix. The large statue of St. Rita is located in a wide round-arched niche above the altar under painted banderole the inscription "H. RITA".
