10. Old village Wichelen
Initially, Wichelen was located on the Paddenhoek, close to the Scheldemeander. With the exception of the cemetery and the old town hall, there is now little to notice. Where did this old village go? The old church at the cemetery was demolished in the 19th century, while a new church was built on the Margote. It took 5 years to make this decision and divided the Dowsers into two hostile camps. Afterwards, part of the old village on the bank was swallowed up by the Scheldt.
In the old cemetery you will find another source of Saint Marculfus, a forgotten saint who was venerated against eczema, rashes and various glandular diseases.
