10. Vecchio villaggio di Wichelen
Inizialmente Wichelen si trovava al Paddenhoek, vicino alle meandro del fiume Schelda. Ad eccezione del cimitero e del vecchio municipio, ora poco è rimasto visibile. Dove è finito questo vecchio villaggio? La vecchia chiesa presso il cimitero fu demolita nel 19° secolo, mentre ne fu costruita una nuova presso la Margote. Ci vollero 5 anni per prendere questa decisione, che divise gli abitanti di Wichelen in due campi ostili. Successivamente, una parte del vecchio villaggio sulla riva fu inghiottita dalla Schelda.
Nel vecchio cimitero troverete ancora una fonte di san Marculfo, un santo dimenticato venerato contro l'eczema, le eruzioni cutanee e varie malattie delle ghiandole.
