Chapel of Saint Lawrence Lokeren

Chapel of St. Lawrence. Built in 1633 as a freestanding building adjacent to the former garden entrance of the noble Ryngaut family estate. In 1768-69, it received its current street facade. During the restoration in 1909 by the Lokeren architect H. Van den Broucke, the facade was stripped and the original window tracery at the top of the facade was replaced by an iron framework. The front facade is made of brick, flanked by slightly angled, blocked pilasters of bluestone, with flat, recessed shafts. The top of the facade is bordered by slender volutes connected by a triangular pseudo-pediment on which a wrought iron cross is placed. The central round-arched door features a bluestone frame with a quarter-circular profile, provided with reveals, imposts, and a decorated keystone. Above the door runs a profiled, corniced, bluestone water table. Adjacent is a large round-arched window with a bluestone frame featuring imposts and a keystone. Above this, there are two S-shaped wall anchors.
