Data relating to the foundation of the parish and the earliest construction history of the church are not available. The current east-facing Gothic hall church is believed to date back to the 14th century and the first half of the 15th century. It is probably an adapted and extensive former cross church of which the crossing tower was preserved. The year 1690 on an arch of the vaulting of the nave possibly refers to further alteration works or repairs to the church building, following prior damage due to fire and/or looting. Changes would also have been made to the tower, but building historical details are missing.
