Anton Van Wilderode, the famous priest-poet, is from and lived in Moerbeke. If you walk or cycle along the Dorpsvaart, you will see the writer's house and the birthplace of the Moerbekenaar. Van Wilderode found in the Moerbeek landscape an inexhaustible source of inspiration for his poems. And that is not so surprising. This small municipality indeed has a rich natural heritage. In the north of Moerbeke, above the expressway between Antwerp and Knokke, you will land in an extensive creek landscape with, among others, the Grote Kreek and the Pereboomsgatkreek, an ideal landscape for walks and bike rides.
